The Burgess family, former long-time residents of Silsbee, has established
the Burgess Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) Scholarship to
support graduating seniors at Silsbee High School pursuing advanced
post-secondary education. Rob Burgess, a 1987 graduate of Silsbee High School,
developed a passion for science beginning in the 6th grade while attending
school in the Silsbee Independent School District which only grew in later
years due to the excellent efforts by SISD teachers. He has since focused
this passion on forging a career in science and business. His father, Bob
Burgess, was a forester for Kirby Forest Industries in Silsbee for twenty years
and later Precinct 1 County Commissioner for another twenty. His mother,
Lola Burgess, was Executive Vice President of the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce
and worked to promote local business success and regional economic growth for
twenty five years. Although they no longer reside in Silsbee, the
Burgesses have fond memories of the Silsbee community and look forward to
supporting students as they move on from SISD and pursue their careers. Pictured are Rob, Bob, Lola and Rob’s wife, Jane,
daughter, Zoie, and son, Bobby.
